How to put lotion on your own back

Putting lotion on your own back usually means a few streaks where you can reach and nothing in the middle. With a long-handled applicator and the right order, you can cover your whole back evenly, on your own.

Step by step

  1. For moisturizer, towel off after your shower so your skin is still slightly damp. For sunscreen, start with dry skin.
  2. Put a coin-sized amount on the pad. Spread it across the pad with your fingers. A blob in the middle goes on as one thick patch.
  3. Hold the handle near the middle. Start at the top of one shoulder blade and sweep down.
  4. Work in overlapping strips from top to bottom, then reach behind you at your waist to cover your lower back.
  5. Go over the strip between your shoulder blades from both directions. It's the area most often missed.
  6. When the pad starts to drag, add a little more.
  7. Afterwards, rinse the pad, wipe the handle with a damp cloth and hang it on the hook to dry.

Sunscreen

Apply sunscreen 15 minutes before you go outside, and use more than feels necessary: most people put on too little. Reapply every 2 hours, and after swimming or sweating.

One pad per product

Do you use more than one thing on your back, like moisturizer, sunscreen, self-tanner or an acne treatment? Keep a separate pad for each so they don't mix. That's what the four-pad set is for.
