Loofah care: how to dry it and when to replace it

A loofah is a sponge that lives in the wettest room in the house. How you dry it decides how long it stays fresh.

After every shower

  1. Rinse out all the soap. Leftover soap keeps the mesh wet.
  2. Squeeze out as much water as you can. Squeeze it; don't wring or twist it.
  3. Hang it on its hook, off the shower floor, with air around it. Don't leave it on a ledge or in a corner.
  4. If your bathroom stays steamy, hang it outside the shower to dry.

Handle the mesh gently

Twisting the pouf or pulling on the mesh is what loosens it and makes it unravel. Squeeze it to get the water out, and hang it by the loop on the handle, not by the mesh.

Don't put it in the dishwasher or leave it soaking. That's hard on the handle.

When to replace it

Dermatologists recommend replacing a mesh pouf about every 2 months. Replace it sooner if it smells musty, shows dark spots or the mesh starts to come loose.

Register your scrubber and, if you ask, we'll email you one reminder when it's time.
